A.D.D. or Just too much that needs to be done?

I’m convinced that I have Attention Deficit Disorder.  There is no fancy diagnosis, just a woman who went downstairs to get a glass of water only to realize 20 minutes later that she was still thirsty.

Here’s just one of my symptoms:  So, I go downstairs with my glass in hand and I stop at the fridge to fill it up and decide while I’m downstairs to go to the bathroom… this is where it happens.  I realize that I need to clean the toilet and after I clean the toilet, I notice the bed isn’t made so I go ahead and make it.  After that, I pick up  a shirt I left on the dresser and go to put it in the hamper.  The hamper is full so I start a load of laundry at which time I realize there is laundry that needs to be folded, so I fold it. Once I finish I hear my phone ringing upstairs and realize that I had only come down for a minute and run up to take the call.  While I’m talking, I realize that I’m still thirsty and my glass is still downstairs where I filled it up at least 20 minutes ago.

Please tell me that I’m not alone…

Happy New Year 2012

Happy New Year 2012

I’ve never been successful with New Year’s resolutions…  What has worked for me is choosing three words that guide my thoughts and efforts in the coming year.  Here are my 3 words for 2012:

Simplify.  Treasure.  Read.

Simplify – I will get organized, get rid of clutter, things I don’t need, clothes I don’t wear and find peace in a simpler life.

Treasure – Guard your treasure… Time, money, body & relationships.  I will focus on spending my time and money wisely, not wasting a single minute or dollar. I will invest more time and build more valuable relationships. I will improve my body through exercise and what I eat.

Read –  I will read one book a week…  I will stop watching television and hit the books: biographies, fiction, finance, novels, design and maybe even a cook book.

What do you want to aspire to in 2012?

Family… They Know Where The Bodies Are Buried!

BarbiesWe’re getting ready to visit my side of the family on “The Left Coast” for my parents’ 50th Wedding Anniversary. We’re surprising them by flying in from Florida and having a party for them.  Note that my dad is not a fan of surprises and my mom will cry the moment she sees us and without warning during our stay, it’s going to be great.

My husband will never forget meeting the family 20 years ago, we were just shacking up at the time and for some unknown reason, he didn’t run after this event.  I introduced him to everyone at breakfast in some IHOP’ish type restaurant and my mom and dad had birthday presents for me, it was good times.

After opening all the gifts I saw a flash from my past.  At the bottom of the gift bag was a naked, headless Barbie Doll.  The doll, I’m told, was found buried in the backyard; the head has never been found.  I warned them that there were others, “stop digging” I told them.  The only explanation I had was that this is what happens when you are the last people in the free world to get cable and you watch critically acclaimed films like “Motel Hell” at 3am and you’ve outgrown playing with Barbie Dolls.  See… No therapy necessary.

Family… They love you, even though they know where all the bodies are buried.

Simple Pleasures: Freshly Laundered Sheets

I’m starting a new series here on the Homebody at Heart. I’m hoping that each week, I can share a simple pleasure with you… Just like it sounds, I’ll introduce one of the little things that brings me great joy, something for everyone, even those on the tightest budget.

I love crisp, cool sheets. If I won the lottery, I wouldn’t want for a new car or a boat. Just someone to wash and iron my sheets everyday, that would be living it up! Continue reading

PerkStreet Financial :: Cash Rewards Debit Card

I’m always looking for ways to save money…  I consider myself frugal (not cheap). In May (after much research) we started banking online with PerkStreet Financial, the main reason was that they offer a Cash Rewards Debit Card.  We decided to stop using credit cards and to be rewarded for using our own money, we receive 2% cash back for every dollar spent.

You can read more about PerkStreet here…

I’ve become disillusioned with credit card companies who change reward programs as often as I change my sheets and with other banks who are canceling debit card reward programs all together and now charging their customers for the privilege of using their own money with monthly debit card fees.

Here’s how much cash back we’ve earned in just 4 months, spending our own money and never paying a fee.

PerkStreet Financial Cash Back Rewards in 4 monthsDid I mention that they have real human beings offering 24/7 customer service?

Check it out for yourself… PerkStreet Financial Debit MasterCard®
